Wellness Wednesday: Taking Care of Busine…No YOURSELF

What a week. I had some family in town for Mother’s Day + we ate + drank a bit too much, but hey, no judging here. I’m also working on a few projects + in the middle of Spring cleaning, #ineedvacation.
.
So, what a better week than this week to talk about taking care of thyself, preventing things like stress, aches, + allow us to be our best selves.
.
First things first, a similar bed + rise time is a plus when it comes to self care, your body doesn't want to be put on a roller coaster when it is going to bed, so try to get your zzz’s at the same time every night…even if that bedtime is 11:30 (guilty).
.
Every morning I wait as. long. as. possible. to get on my phone. I know, sounds like a total nightmare, but it really does help with the flow of my day, I’m usually able to get a shower in, write/complete my to-do list or read one of the many books I’m currently trying to finish, + feed the dogs before I get on my phone.
.
I just started tongue scraping, because Sahara Rose, a best selling Author + Ayurveda wiz, got me thinking I needed one. So much bacteria sits on our tongue especially while we are asleep, so a good scraping does wonders for your tongue + mouth. This doesn’t need to be done everyday, I don’t, but it is nice to do every so often, I’d say 2-3 times a week. I ordered this one from Thrive Market + have used it a few times. (sorry no picture because, well it’s used + I wouldn’t post a photo of my used toothbrush either, lol, but it looks a lot like this).
.
I am NOT a fan of bathing, just the idea of ‘relaxing’ in water that isn’t so clean after I get in it…well you get it, that’s not my cup of tea. Which totally sucks because I really want to try a cute bath balm, oh well, maybe I will shower then bathe next time. Usually, I take nice long hot morning showers to wake me up + also require me to reluctantly get out of my pajama’s everyday. When compared to a nighttime shower, an AM shower can energize the body + help stimulate the lymphatic system. It’s also an awesome way to focus your mental energy before the day starts, and it can help promote creativity.
.
One of my favorite tips is yoga every morning. Now I am not a yoga master, but I do love a good morning stretch, along with all the calming sounds, so therapeutic. I was using the Daily Yoga app, which allows you to choose your level + course you’d like to complete- it’s super easy, takes like 20 mins each morning. But, I was on Youtube a few months back + stumbled on Boho Beautiful, who does her yoga practices all over the world in the most amazing places, now I’m hooked on her + subscribed to her YouTube channel.
.
I love a good quiet room to zen in, makes the vibe too nice. No lights on, just you + the practice, so nice.
.
Next things next, a good breakfast. Now I don’t eat breakfast, EVER. Just about the only thing I can have in the AM are smoothies. Now tart + toothbrushing just don’t go hand in hand for me, so I opt out of fruit smoothies, especially in the morning. A boiled egg, omelet, or overnight oats are great choices too!
.
I’m currently OBSESSED with this smoothie, I’ll post the recipe below- it’s full of all the good stuff, so it only looks like you’re having a chocolate milkshake at 9:00 in the morning.
.
I am giving up coffee, well trying to. Sometimes I’d have an unnecessary cup at three in the afternoon, like clockwork, so weird. Which is why I’m just opting out all together, instead I’m choosing hot lemon water or mint tea in the morning to get me going. Of course I’m not as wired as usual, but I’m still able to get shit done, + that’s all that matters.
.
Take your weight, divide it by two + have at least that number of oz. of water a day (ex. 120 / 2 = 60). This is something I'm still working on + tend to be a little more lax on. I find that if I drink my water with lemon or in a shorter glass I drink more of it, weird I know but hey what works, works. You'll know when you're drinking a solid amount of water because the bathroom becomes your second bedroom.
.
I love a good to do list. I don't know what it is about being able to cross off tasks as you get them done, but man it's a great feeling, almost therapeutic. Because let's be honest, if I don't have a to-do list I'm more likely to go on an Amazon shopping spree + spend our pinning new recipes. I need a list to keep me on track, haha. I will write my lists weekly + daily, I'm not too strict on this, because hey things pop up. Try to write down what you want to accomplish the night before so you're mind isn't wandering as you fall asleep.
.
I hope you have a fantastic Wednesday + send over any rituals that get + keep your day going. I’m off to tend to my strawberry babies + pray I didn’t kill my pepper plant, wish me luck!
xx
.
Recipe for Smoothie:
- 1/3 Banana
- 1 cup milk of your choice
- 1 cup of ice
- 1 to 2 tablespoons of almond butter
- 1 scoop collagen peptide powder
- chocolate powder (didn't measure just poured, because I love chocolate)
Place all ingredients in your blender + blend until smooth. Sometimes mine come out pretty runny or too liquid-y, which is why I'll put it in the freezer for about thirty minutes while I finish getting ready + doing my morning stuff.
It tastes like a Dewar's George's Special, if you're local then you know what I'm talking about, so damn good.
